This hymn is based on Titus 3:5-6. It highlights the moment when a sinner and a saint learn that toil and self-worth have gotten them nowhere, but God's grace appears setting them free.

Lyrics

1. I have sought to please the Father with my passion and my zeal,

to inherit His great kingdom and my worthiness reveal.

But Your gift cannot be purchased by the sweat of my brow

nor Your riches earned by labor. Freely grace you did endow.

Chorus: Oh what mercy, love and kindness; for my cause You interfered.

By Your Son's great sacrifice, to all men, grace appeared.

2. Justified when Jesus suffered, I became an heir of Thee.

Lasting life to me is offered, in this hope I'm finally free.

Favor's mine from God the Father, my works vain redundancy.

His Spirit washed away my squalor, through Jesus grace abundantly.
